Repair or Replace a Water Softener?
A replacement decision starts with the existing model, a current incoming hardness result and a qualified assessment of operation. Compare repair scope with a complete replacement proposal.
Identify the existing system
Find the manufacturer, model and installation record. Record controller settings, salt condition and recent service. Describe the symptom and whether it affects every outlet. Manufacturer troubleshooting instructions are more useful than assuming every deposit means the unit has failed.
Check both sides of treatment
Measure incoming hardness and, where appropriate, treated output. Confirm sampling points and bypass position. A current source result supports sizing; a treated result helps investigate operation. Do not compare readings without checking those conditions.

Compare complete scopes
A repair quote should identify the diagnosed fault, parts and labor. A replacement quote should identify the complete model, usable flow, installation changes and commissioning. Compare those written scopes over a common ownership period.

- Disposal and plumbing changes: included or extra?
- Consumables and future service: who is responsible?

Confirm support before accepting
Ask the provider whether it services the existing brand and which parts it can obtain. Prestige’s ability to repair a competitor’s equipment is not established by this guide; confirm the model and service request directly.
