PRESTIGE H2O / WATER, UNDERSTOOD

Water softener salt and regeneration

Regeneration restores an ion-exchange softener's resin using a brine solution and flushes away the accumulated hardness ions. The correct regenerant, amount and cycle settings depend on the system and incoming water. Keep the model's instructions and programmed settings together instead of using a universal salt or regeneration schedule.

Know which control you have

A time-based control and a demand-based control start regeneration differently. Ask the installer to explain the chosen settings and how to recognize normal operation. A household change is a reason to review those settings with the supplier.

Make a simple ownership log

A dated record is more useful than trying to remember what changed. Store it beside the manual and update it whenever maintenance is completed.

  • Model and serial number
  • Incoming hardness and date tested
  • Regenerant type required by the manual
  • Salt checks, additions and service visits
  • Changes to settings and who made them

Notice changes without guessing the cause

If salt use, water use or performance changes, record what you observed. Check the manual's troubleshooting guidance and contact the supplier when needed. Avoid changing multiple settings at once; that makes it harder to understand which change affected the result.

Ask for a complete handover

Request an explanation of normal displays, the bypass and the safe response to a fault. Ask which care tasks you should perform and which need service. This guide is a planning aid and does not replace model-specific operating instructions.

Questions and answers

How often should my softener regenerate?

Use the model's design and settings for your measured hardness and use. A fixed schedule copied from another home may not fit your system.

Can I switch to a different softener salt?

Check which regenerants the manufacturer permits and whether changing them requires a setting change. Keep the answer with the manual.

What should I report if the unit seems to use more salt?

Give the supplier dates, approximate additions, any household-use changes and the current display or fault message. Those details help narrow the next check.
